Eighty percent of the country’s population lives in rural areas and agriculture is their primary livelihood. However share of agriculture in total Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has been declining over the years, it still accounts for one-third of GDP.

Beyond economic productivity and poverty reduction, agricultural stagnation undermines the Government’s goal of achieving food security for all citizens of Nepal. An estimated 60 percent of households cannot meet their own food needs, especially in mountainous areas, and agricultural production only meets food requirements for three-to-eight months per year.

Asian Heritage Foundation Nepal believes that only with the modernization in agriculture and environment protection will support of related livelihoods to bring the change in the lives of rural communities. This year, we focused on following activities for agriculture and environment protection.

• To transform subsistence agriculture into commercial agriculture.
• Support Nepal government agriculture policy.
• Transferring appropriate agricultural technologies to farmers.
• Awareness campaign on natural resource management and climate change.
• Agricultural training / Field visit to framers.
• Promote eco clubs in school and community.
• Livestock, horticulture and fisheries promotion program.
